Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the most picturesque wildlife landscapes. The wildlife reserve is also praised as an outdoor museum to appreciate and explore nature. Legends also say that elephants also used to stay in this region and thus, gets its name ‘Nagzira’ (nag = elephant in Sanskrit). The area of 116.54 sq km (45.00 sq mi) was announced as a wildlife sanctuary in 1970. Later in the year 2012, the state government declared to unite the sanctuary with other national park to get included in the Tiger Project.
The national park is also praised for providing shelter to 34 species of mammals, 36 species of reptiles and 4 species of amphibians. To list of the ammonals spotted in the market are sloth bear, four horned antelope, tiger, chital, blue bull, bison, barking Deer, Panther, nilgai, Sambar, wild boar, and many more. The national park also provides shelter to various invertebrates such as insects, ants, and beautiful butterflies. Moreover, the national park is also are treat for bird watchers as there are about 166 species of birds seeking shelter in the park. The national park is also an ideal destination for wildlife n nature photographers.
